2008 Technical Innovation of the Year Award

Intalysis AwardMoisture Analysers in Bulk Materials
Frost and Sullivan Asia Pacific

The 2008 Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific Technology Innovation of the Year Award in the field of Moisture Analysers for Bulk Materials was awarded to Intalysis.  The award is in recognition of our Low Frequency Microwave (LFM) moisture analyser technology that has helped in reducing the dust at Australian ports and therefore increased the throughput of bulk materials such as coal and iron ore.

Frost and Sullivan awards are presented to companies that demonstrate best practices in their industries and markets.  The awards commend their diligence, commitment and innovative business strategies that enable them to grow and advance in the competitive global market.

Selection Process

The Frost and Sullivan analyst team conducts preliminary research then shortlists between 4 and 5 companies in each award category.  They then undertake detailed primary research and validate the performance of each nominated company within the context of their market.  Information is evaluated and a recommendation is made to a Frost and Sullivan committee based on the analysts’ findings.  After careful deliberation, the committee decides the most deserving recipient.

Based on past Frost and Sullivan awards history, usually major companies are recognised but they also identify rapidly growing technology companies whose technology may be interesting in wider markets.

At the awards ceremony there were four innovation awards and two of these were CSIRO technology.

Other award recipients on the night included Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Schneider Electric, Siemens and Honda Motor Company.

BHP Billiton team wins Environment Excellence Award

A BHP Billiton team using Intalysis’ LFM Moisture Analysers to help minimise iron ore dust emissions has received the company’s Environment Excellence Award for 2006.  The resource giant presented its annual Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) awards on 12 September in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The awards, which recognise employee excellence in each of the four areas mentioned, attracted over 367 submissions.  The winning Growth Projects team, led by John Groves, is from the company’s Carbon Steel Materials, Iron Ore group in Western Australia.

The team developed a project to condition ore to minimise the potential for dust emissions while maintaining its handling qualities. In accepting the award, John acknowledged the efforts of CSIRO Minerals’ David Miljak and his team in the development of the LFM Moisture Analyser, which delivered a simple, low-cost moisture control solution for iron ore containing a high level of ultra fines (which are potentially dustier).  The analyser is now marketed by CSIRO spin-out company, Intalysis Pty Ltd, under the leadership of Graeme McGown.
